Doors throughout history have also changed regarding functionality. For instance we still find doors of all types those that roll slide swing and fold. Of course for doors to function hardware is required to include door handles. Just as with doors handles have a long history although these were first manufactured during the mid-19th century in America. The first handle was shaped like an egg and today they are still found in many homes especially older homes. Interestingly because of the way this type of door handle is grasped it has proved to be the easiest to open.
The other important aspect to consider when buying door handles is the aesthetic beauty. There are artistic knobs that may take diverse shapes such as a hand bottle or a key. Some handles are placed at the center of the door for aesthetics. You can also get a see through knobs or a old fashioned ones. The door knobs also come in diverse colors to match with the door furniture and the rest of the house.
Treat door handles as an accessory to your door. This should help in choosing the right style and colour for your home. So if it is an accessory to your doors you will need to look at your doors and see what kind of style they are for example are they pine wood and simple in design or are they white and very traditional and intricately styled? If you have a very busy door dont go for a busy door handle choose a style that is in keeping with the doors mood but calm it down a little on the door handle otherwise itll look too much in the room. If you have a plain door you can go all out and with a jazzy and fancy door handle.
Nice and easy and low maintenance the best way to keep your chrome handles looking great is to dust them and give them a quick wash over with the tried and tested soft cloth and warm soapy water combination. Make sure to dry thoroughly afterwards with a lint free cloth or towel. An occasional wipe over with a light oil will also help maintain the appearance of your handles. Dont use metal polishes or any kind of abrasive cleaner.
